The education system in the UK and around the world is there to train and educate people to prepare them for the world of work. At Binary we take education and the development of the next generation incredibly seriously and we have a heavy involvement in assisting and training the future of our industry.
On this case we were invited to Wakefield College which is an establishment local to us and a member of the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group. We were incredibly honoured to take part in the project where we helped to set a project for the college students start of the year.
We assembled a project for the students to take part of which involved all aspects of IT with assembling a companies IT services in a new building. We spent the time at the start of the week teaching the students what kind of requirements they might expect to see in the real world and gave some examples of projects that we had worked on.
At the end of the week the students were tasked with presenting the plan for each of the requirements and we’re taught on places they might have missed something and things they had done really well on.
What we found
It was great to work on the project with Wakefield College and we found some interesting results when completing the project. It was clear that the students were thoroughly interested in IT as an industry and each person took a different interest in different aspects of the industry.
By the end of the project it was obvious that the students had listened to our presentation and took lots of knowledge away from what we had said. Different projects took different angles on each of the case studies and modern cloud solutions took a clear lead in the popularity of solutions.
